In Home Newborn Session | Oriana, Brian, Aidan and Sonia | Inner Sunset San Francisco

I met up with Oriana and her family on the morning of Saturday July 6. Her newborn Sonia had just turned 2 weeks and was snuggling in Oriana's arms when I arrived. Her older kiddo Aidan, greeted me at the door in his adorable teal pajamas.

I like to spend time with siblings when I arrive for a newborn shoot. They're just getting used to the idea of sharing their home with new baby, so I want to make sure they feel extra important and included during the newborn session. Aidan helped me explore lighting and take test shots in their home, and also took some candid (hilarious) pictures of me which I told him I'd use for my website.

I was drawn to two rooms in their home in particular, due to the large west-facing windows which created a lovely portraiture lighting. I took some photos of Sonia and Oriana, and Aidan came into the room to join in the moment, resulting in some really sweet, natural photos.

We took family photos in Aidan's bedroom. Having him on board was important for a successful family shot, and this was the place he was most relaxed and enthusiastic about for the photos. He was so sweet and happy to have his whole family in the room. And he picked out a book they could all read together.

I love capturing natural portraits of a newborn throughout a session. This results in a set of images that showcase personality and connection. Sonia experienced so many different emotions and sensations during the session, and we preserved these with beautiful shots.

Some of my favorite shots are portraits of parents with their newborn. I love these because I like giving parents to be the star of the show. To have their love for their newborn documented, and to showcase the connection and attachment between a newborn and their parents. Here are some of my favorite portraits from Oriana's session.

Towards the end of the session we took some very sweet pictures of Oriana and Brian together, a rare moment that the parents can sneak away together and stare at their baby, the best thing in the world.
